Great for a small family or a couple. I love using my air fryer for small batch baking. If you live alone or are a family of three or less, a full size coffee cake is likely to go to waste.

What I love most about cooking in the air fryer is it is soo quick and easy. You don’t even need to preheat the air fryer for this recipe!

  • Mix the dry ingredients.
  • Mix the wet ingredients.
  • Add dry to wet ingredients and stir together. Stir in apples.

Type Of Apple To Use

Use a firm apple that holds its shape well when cooked. Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are good choices.

Size Pan To Use

A 7-inch round cake pan is perfect for this recipe or you can use an 8×4-inch loaf pan.

Recipe Tips

  • Cut the apples into a small dice, trying to cut them all roughly the same size.
  • Be careful using a shallow pan. The coffee cake will rise quite a bit.
  • If the top is browning too much, cover with a small piece of foil.
  • Use a toothpick to ensure it is cooked all the way.
  • Let cool at least 10 minutes before adding glaze and slicing.
  • Want to eat for dessert? Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Cooking Times Vary

It can take a little trial and error to get the cooking time right. Different air fryers cook at very different rates. The size and shape of the pan you use will also effect the cooking time. Use the cooking time as an estimate and check early and often.

Variations

Add some nuts if you like nuts in your coffee cake. Add 1/3 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the streusel.

Storage

Leftovers, if you have any, can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days. Rewarm in the air fryer before serving for best flavor.

I find there’s no need to preheat my air fryer when baking in it. If your air fryer requires pre-heating, go ahead and do it.
Finding the correct baking time can be a little tricky when baking in an air fryer. It can vary greatly based on the brand and size of your air fryer and the size of the pan you use.
Unlike the oven, it is ok to check frequently. The air fryer won’t lose much heat and will quickly get back to the correct temperature.
