Single Serving

I love that the air fryer is great for making single serving desserts. This recipe makes 1 mug cake but it can easily be doubled or tripled. You should be able to fit 2 to 3 mugs in most air fryer baskets.

Ingredients

  • Chocolate Cake Mix– I use Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines, but you can use your favorite.
  • Applesauce– I use regular store-bought applesauce, but you can use unsweetened for a slightly less sweet mug cake or you can use cinnamon-flavored applesauce.
  • Water
  • Chocolate Frosting– I like to top the mug cakes with chocolate frosting. I just use store-bought. If you don’t want to use frosting, you could top the mug cake with Cool Whip or whipped cream.

Type Of Mug To Use

Be sure to use a mug that is heat-proof glass or ceramic. You want them to be 8 to 12 ounces. If you don’t have small mugs, you can use a ramekin instead.

Variations

  • Add in a spoonful of chocolate chips or nuts.
  • Add 1/8 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract for a Chocolate Almond Mug Cake.
  • Try making this recipe with spice cake mix instead of chocolate cake mix.

Recipe Tips

  • Do not overfill the mugs. The cake will rise quite a bit.
  • Air fryer cooking times vary so use the air frying time as an estimate.
